Indians Pound Crescenta Valley 10-1
The Burroughs Indians pounded out a 10-1 victory over second place Crescenta Valley in a game played at CV. Kym Rudder allowed only three hits in seven innings of work, walking four while striking out 8. CVs only run was unearned.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings, with each team producing only one hit. The Indians broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning on Kelly Villanueva’s base hit and a fielders’ choice by Alanis Orozco for a 2-0 Indian lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Indians broke it open by scoring six runs to increase their lead to 8-0. Maille Romberger started the inning with a bunt single, Dani Hebri reached on an error, and both scored on a line-drive double by Jill Kukawski. Kukawski scored on another line drive double by Sabrina Englebrecht. Alyssa Valenzuela earned a walk, and Avery Mochrie hit a booming home run well over the left field fence.
The Indians added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Hebri singled, advanced to second base on a single by Kukawski, and stole third base. Hebri scored on a wild pitch and Kukawski scored on a single by Valenzuela. CV scored their only run in the bottom of the 6’th.
The Indian offense produced eleven hits including two line drive doubles and a booming home run. Romberger, Kukawski, Englebrecht, and Mochrie each had two hits.
The victory improved the Indians’ record to 9-0 in the Pacific League and 15-2 overall. The Indians are alone in first place and have a two game lead over second place Crescenta Valley with five games left to play.
